Every album unboxing ends the same way — someone pulls the member they were not collecting, and the trade chat opens. 포카 교환하실래요? (poka gyohwanhasillaeyo?), "Would you like to trade photocards?" is the line that starts it, and 어떤 멤버 찾으세요? (eotteon membeo chajeuseyo?), "Which member are you looking for?" is what keeps it moving before someone else takes the card.

  • Open the trade: 포카 교환하실래요? (poka gyohwanhasillaeyo?), "Would you like to trade photocards?"
  • Ask who they need: 어떤 멤버 찾으세요? (eotteon membeo chajeuseyo?), "Which member are you looking for?"
  • Check it is still free: 이거 아직 있어요? (igeo ajik isseoyo?), "Is this one still available?"
  • Describe the card: 상태 좋아요 (sangtae joayo), "It's in good condition."
  • Close it warmly: 교환 감사합니다 (gyohwan gamsahamnida), "Thank you for the trade."

How do you get into a photocard trade before it closes?

Trade posts move in minutes. A short Korean reply reads as a real offer, while a translated paragraph arrives after the card is gone.

  1. Reply to the post with 포카 교환하실래요? so your offer is on the table first.
  2. Follow with 어떤 멤버 찾으세요? — most traders answer that faster than anything else.
  3. Before you commit, ask 이거 아직 있어요? so you are not chasing a card that already moved.
  4. Send a photo of yours with 상태 좋아요 to save a round of questions.
  5. Once you agree, write 교환 감사합니다 — traders remember who was easy to deal with.

What do Korean speakers say back?

Trade replies are short and practical — nobody writes long messages while five other people are asking about the same card.

You: 포카 교환하실래요? — poka gyohwanhasillaeyo? — "Would you like to trade photocards?"
Them: 네, 어떤 멤버 찾으세요? — ne, eotteon membeo chajeuseyo? — "Sure, which member are you looking for?"
You: 이거 아직 있어요? — igeo ajik isseoyo?

Meetups near a venue work the same way, just out loud instead of typed. For the album pull that starts most of these trades, see Korean phrases for a K-pop album unboxing live.

What usually goes wrong in a trade chat?

Learners write one careful English message and wait. By the time it is answered, the trader has already agreed with someone who replied in two Korean words.

The other slip is skipping 상태 좋아요 and the photo, which turns a two-message trade into a long back-and-forth about what the card actually looks like. For meeting the trader in person afterward, see Korean phrases at a K-pop pop-up store in Seoul.

Say it out loud, not just in your head

Trade chats move too fast for looking up romanization mid-scroll.
