Korean phrases for buying a 유심 (yusim, SIM card) lean on Pattern 03 — noun plus 있어요? (isseoyo?), "do you have?" — and Pattern 01 — 주세요 (juseyo), "please give me." At Incheon Airport or a 휴대폰 (hyudaeppon, mobile phone) shop, ask 유심 있어요? (yusim isseoyo?), "Do you have a SIM?" then point at the plan card and say 이거 주세요 (igeo juseyo), "This one, please."

  • Ask for a SIM: 유심 있어요? (yusim isseoyo?), "Do you have a SIM?"
  • Pick a plan: 이거 주세요 (igeo juseyo), "This one, please."
  • Need data only: 데이터만 있는 거 있어요? (deiteoman inneun geo isseoyo?), "Do you have a data-only one?"
  • Set up now: 지금 개통해 주세요 (jigeum gaetonghae juseyo), "Please activate it now."
  • Check price: 얼마예요? (eolmayeyo?), "How much is it?"

How do you buy a SIM at the airport or a phone shop?

Counters at Incheon and major carriers — SKT, KT, LG U+ — display plan cards with data amounts and day counts. Staff often start in English, but the counter queue moves faster when you lead with Korean.

You: 안녕하세요. 유심 있어요? — annyeonghaseyo. yusim isseoyo? — "Hello. Do you have a SIM?"
Them: 며칠 쓰실 거예요? — myeochil sseusil geoyeyo? — "How many days will you use it?"
You: 일주일이요. 데이터 많은 거 주세요. — ilju-ir-iyo. deiteo maneun geo juseyo. — "One week. The one with a lot of data, please."

Situation Say this
Do you have a SIM? 유심 있어요? (yusim isseoyo?)
This plan, please 이거 주세요 (igeo juseyo)
Data-only option 데이터만 있는 거 있어요? (deiteoman inneun geo isseoyo?)
Activate now 지금 개통해 주세요 (jigeum gaetonghae juseyo)
How much? 얼마예요? (eolmayeyo?)

What if you need help setting it up?

Pattern 23 — verb plus 아/어 주세요 (a/eo juseyo), "please do it for me" — covers activation and APN settings when the staff asks you to wait.

You: 지금 개통해 주세요. — jigeum gaetonghae juseyo. — "Please activate it now."
Them: 5분 정도 걸려요. — o bun jeongdo geollyeoyo. — "It takes about five minutes."
You: 와이파이 있어요? — waipai isseoyo? — "Is there Wi-Fi?" (while you wait)

For staying online after you leave the shop, Korean phrases for asking about Wi-Fi uses the same Pattern 03 line — 와이파이 있어요? — at cafes and guesthouses.

What usually goes wrong when buying a SIM in Korea?

Travelers point at a tourist SIM poster but ask for esim in English while the clerk is already speaking Korean — leading with Pattern 03 gets you to the right tray faster. A second mistake is walking away before activation finishes; 지금 개통해 주세요 at the counter means you test the connection before you leave.

If you land late and the telecom counter is closed, convenience stores sometimes sell prepaid cards — the same 있어요? (isseoyo?) question works at Korean convenience store counters too, though the selection is smaller.
