Korean phrases for shopping at a mall boil down to price, size, and color. Ask 이거 얼마예요? (igeo eolmayeyo?), "How much is this?" when you pick something up, then 다른 색 있어요? (dareun saek isseoyo?), "Do you have another color?" if the tag shows a shade you do not want.

  • Ask the price: 이거 얼마예요? (igeo eolmayeyo?), "How much is this?"
  • Try it on: 입어 봐도 돼요? (ibeo bwado dwaeyo?), "Can I try this on?"
  • Another size: 더 큰 사이즈 있어요? (deo keun saijeu isseoyo?), "Do you have a bigger size?"
  • Pay by card: 카드로 할게요 (kadeuro halgeyo), "I will pay by card."

How do you start a fitting-room visit?

Staff in Seoul malls usually speak enough English for numbers, but Korean gets you faster service when the floor is busy.

  1. Hold up the item and ask 이거 얼마예요?
  2. If you like it, ask 입어 봐도 돼요? and follow the gesture toward fitting rooms.
  3. Inside, check the mirror — if it is tight, ask 더 큰 사이즈 있어요?
  4. At checkout, listen for the total, then say 카드로 할게요.
  5. Take the receipt; some stores ask you to show it at the exit tag scanner.

What does the clerk say when you ask?

Expect short numbers and one follow-up about payment.

You: 이거 얼마예요? — igeo eolmayeyo? — "How much is this?"
Them: 삼만 원이에요. — samman wonieyo. — "It is thirty thousand won."
You: 입어 봐도 돼요? — ibeo bwado dwaeyo? — "Can I try this on?"

If they shake their head at a size, they may say 품절이에요 (pumjeorieyo), "It is sold out." Ask 다른 색 있어요? before you give up — the same cut often comes in another color with stock left.

What usually goes wrong while shopping?

The most common freeze happens at the fitting-room door when you forgot the phrase and mime instead. 입어 봐도 돼요? is the whole sentence; no grammar table required.

A second mistake is saying 싸게 해 주세요 (ssage hae juseyo), "Make it cheaper," in a fixed-price mall store — that line fits open-air markets, not department floors. For market bargaining, see the post on Korean phrases for bargaining in markets.
